Description

In the fall of 2023, the state of Wisconsin released a scope and sequence for Civics instruction at each grade level (elementary, middle, and high school). In addition to the scope and sequence, Wisconsin recently received an iCivics grant that is providing additional funding specifically for elementary schools. This training will review a three-part module training created by CESA’s (as a part of this grant) for K-5  teachers and administrators across the state. The titles/content of the three modules created include:

Module 1: Overview of 2018 Social Studies Standards, K-5 Civics Scope & Sequence, and Civics Practices
Module 2: Teaching Civics and Inquiry in the Elementary Grades, Trusted Resources, and Classroom Implementation
Module 3: Reading, Writing & Thinking in the K-5 Civics Classroom

All three modules will be reviewed in an interactive way that allows elementary teachers to better engage students in social studies instruction. In addition to the module content, K-5 educators will get an opportunity to engage in learning, networking, and collaboration around high-quality teaching practices and discuss how to embed social studies content and skills throughout their day.
