Audience: Participants with an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in areas other than education.

Date: Wednesday, August 12, 2026

Time: In-person: 8:30am - 3:30 pm

Location: CESA 9

Cost: $170, which includes lunch and materials.  Veterans will receive $50 off the registration fee with a valid military ID!

*PLEASE NOTE: There is a separate $135 DPI fee when you apply for the Substitute Teacher License at the end of training.  Please bring a credit card for this.  DPI does not accept debit cards.

Have you ever considered becoming a substitute teacher? Do you have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree? If so, CESA 9's substitute teacher training will get you started!  This one-day session qualifies as the required training for Wisconsin’s 3-year Short-Term Substitute License. This license will allow you to substitute at any grade level and can be renewed every 3 years. Participants who complete the training will receive a certificate of completion to be used in the application process for the license.

The cost* for this one-day workshop is $170, which includes lunch and materials.  Veterans will receive $50 off the registration fee with a valid military ID! Simply note that you are a veteran in your registration and bypass the payment screen. We will adjust pricing after an ID is presented on the day of the workshop.

You will need to bring:

• A laptop and power cord

• Access to your email account (Login and password needed)

• Copy of official college transcripts (Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree)

  • You’ll need this document in a PDF form.  If you have hard copies, we can scan and email them to you. DPI's transcript requirements.

• Credit card for DPI licensing fee.*

Please note that you may incur additional fees if it is determined that fingerprints will be required with DPI's application.  To determine if you will need fingerprints, please use DPI's Fingerprint Decision Tree.   Fingerprinting does NOT need to be completed prior to our training class.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TRAINING COURSE IN WISCONSIN AND SIMPLY NEED TO RENEW YOUR LICENSE, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER FOR THIS TRAINING.  PLEASE VISIT DPI'S WEBSITE FOR APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS.
